Accountant

Financial Services are a key central support function within Lancaster City Council and provide support to all other Council services and activities.  We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual who would be responsible for providing a wide range of financial and systems administration support. You must be able to demonstrate a high degree of technical ability, whilst also possessing excellent communication and strong financial management skills. 

As Accountant you will be responsible for providing a full range of technical and professional accountancy and financial management services to the Council, and to contribute to its efficient corporate financial management and planning arrangements. In addition you will play a key role in the preparation of revenue budgets, contributing to the medium term financial plans and other key strategies, as well as significant involvement in the closure of accounts and liaising with the Council’s external auditors. You will provide financial advice and support to assist with business plans, grant claims and returns, externally funded initiatives and partnership agreements and performance measures across all areas of the Council.

Ideally the successful candidate will be a qualified accountant and have experience in local government. Experience of managing staff is also desirable.

The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday and you will be based at Lancaster Town Hall, although some travel to Council offices within the district will be required.

The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post.
