Clerk to the Governing Body


Part time - approx 16 hours per month (but will vary depending on requirements of meetings)

BG grade I/H + fringe allowance.  Casual paid monthly in arrears via timesheets.

Starting hourly rate: £10.25 - £14.78per hour, depending on experience and including Fringe Allowance.


This is a key role providing administrative and advisory support to the Governing Body and reporting to the Chair of Governors.

You would be responsible for preparing agendas in consultation with the headteacher and the chair of governors; taking and writing up the minutes at governors’ meetings, and distributing documentation and other information to the governing body. The clerk will need to become familiar with the DfE’s Governors’ Handbook, and provide accurate advice to governors as necessary.

There are usually 6 meetings of the full governing body per year as well as approximately 6-9 Committee meetings, 6 of which are currently held on the same day as the full governing body meetings. These are usually held between 7pm and 9pm and therefore willingness to attend evening meetings is essential. The remaining committee meetings are usually held during the school day.

The successful candidate will also be expected to attend the termly briefing sessions held by the Local Authority which are held during the working day and take advantage of other training sessions that may be offered.

Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential. The job requires someone who is a good communicator who works well on their own using their own initiative and as part of a team.
