Senior Project Manager

Newham Council has a continual and increasing workload of exciting schemes which currently include Traffic Management, safety, ‘Corridor’ and ‘Neighbourhood’, urban realm, ‘legacy’ (from the Games), cycling and walking, highways improvement, development related and schools expansion schemes. An important area of work includes resolving traffic related problems experienced by Newham’s residents and businesses.

Senior Project Manager £36,711 pa - £39,774 pa An enthusiastic, efficient and highly motivated Senior Project Managers is being sought for Newham’s Traffic Management and Safety Team. The Senior Project Manager will be required to support the Principal Officer managing the delivery of Traffic Management schemes within the Highways and Traffic Group, in an effective and efficient manner to deliver best value and ensure continuous improvements. This will involve working with both internal and external project team members, as well as managing elements of the projects at the various stages of their delivery. The roles would suit a candidate with Senior Project Management experience, a good understanding of the issues relating to traffic management and road safety.

The successful candidates will lead on the design development and project management of a variety of schemes which are helping to shape Newham as it undergoes major transformation with a massive development programme. The role is primarily associated with planning, consultation and preliminary design, but may also include detailed design and site supervision, depending on the individual skills. To apply for these roles, you will have the knowledge, experience and skills to work in a pressurised environment, both on your own and within a team, to deliver effective schemes to tight deadlines. You will also be seeking to gain experience and develop your career, with a view to becoming a Chartered Engineer in due course. The Highways and Traffic Team consists of many highly experienced and motivated engineers with a strong ethos for mentoring staff to help with their development.
