Job summary

The postholder will work in the Housing and Regeneration Directorate within the Welsh Government.

The Head of Housing and Regeneration Strategy and Operations is a key strategic role working across the Housing and Regeneration Directorate to help the government meet its housing and regeneration ambitions. The work of the Head of Strategy and Operations includes strategic communications, economic analysis, corporate governance, finance management, government business, business planning and resourcing. The team is also responsible for the development and oversight of cross-cutting strategy and legislation.

Job description

This role will support the Head of Strategy and Operations as part of workplace adjustments for the current postholder, supporting them to undertake their duties including diary and email management, support with notetaking at meetings as required and acting as the main point of contact for team members and senior leaders working with the Head of Strategy and Operations. As the role is specifically linked to the holder of the Head of Strategy and Operations role, the postholder will provide support in whatever senior leadership role they undertake in the organisation.

Person specification

  • Inbox management and prioritisation for the Head of Strategy and Operations, including replying to emails on their behalf and ensuring urgent requests are actioned.
  • Diary management and prioritisation for the Head of Strategy and Operations, including setting up virtual and in person meetings, following the preferences and ways of working of the Head of Strategy and Operations.
  • Where required taking notes and actions of meetings accompanying the Head of Strategy and Operations to senior leadership meetings and operational meetings with the branches the Head of Strategy and Operations leads.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for any enquiries for the Head of Strategy and Operations for team members and senior leaders across the organisation
  • Acting as first point of contact for the Head of Strategy and Operations in case of emergency, notifying colleagues if they are taken unwell and managing their inbox and diary in case of absence.
  • Manage the file management on behalf of the Head of Strategy and Operations to ensure a robust audit trail of sensitive operational and strategic papers.
  • Model the social model of disability in promoting accessibility and inclusion, ensuring the work preferences and adjustments of the Head of Strategy and Operations are taken into account by team members and senior leaders
