Advisory Teacher – Learning and Behaviour Advisory Team
About us
The Learning and Behaviour Advisory Team (LBAT) is part of our Specialist Advisory Teaching Service (SATS), sitting within our Education and Skills Directorate, supporting the delivery of inclusion in schools for children and young people.
The LBAT provides advice, training and support to schools for individual pupils with Learning and Behaviour needs to enable schools to provide best inclusive practice for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The team also provides a variety of bespoke training to schools (eg ADHD, understanding and responding to behaviour and an introduction to Dyslexia.)
The Opportunity
FTE Salary: Soulbury EIP 4-6 £48,818 to £51,694 per annum, pro rata for part time
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full-time 37 hours a week
Location for positions: Countywide cover; your base location will be agreed with you at interview

- You must be able to travel throughout the County including to locations that are not always accessible by public transport.

Here at West Sussex County Council, what we do is change lives. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as part of our Learning and Behaviour Advisory Team (LBAT) as an Advisory Teacher. We are seeking a qualified teacher who will use their skills and knowledge to focus on learning and behaviour, raising standards, improving pupil progress and access to learning as a professional lead.
As an Advisory Teacher, you will lead and work alongside practitioners and stakeholders to develop the quality of the environment, interactions, assessment, planning and teaching to support children and young people’s learning and development.
You will act as an ambassador to enhance the quality of inclusive teaching and learning. You will promote a specialist service across all schools and settings.
This role will involve you to confidently support practitioners with the effective implementation of Local Authority and School polices. You will develop a knowledge and understanding of the needs of localities to manage support and challenge to improve outcomes for children and young people.
We are looking for someone who has a knowledge and understanding of supporting pupils with difficulties with learning and behaviour with a passion for inclusive practice in all areas of work. Experience and skills
Key Skills:
- Ability to make sound pragmatic problem-solving decisions and provide comprehensive professional advice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written) with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships to successfully influence, persuade and negotiate effective outcomes.
- Ability to challenge existing practices and identify innovative solutions to improve learning outcomes for children and young people.
- Excellent inclusive practice and teaching skills with a good knowledge of SEND and neurodiversity (with potential specialist knowledge in one area).
- Sound and accurate IT skills to enhance teaching and learning.
- Ability to travel countywide.
Qualifications and/or experience:
- Educated to degree level with QTS.
- Experience of supporting pupils with difficulties with learning and behaviour.
- Experience of Leading on Inclusion eg SENCO or similar.
- Current driving licence.
