Allocations Officer
About the job
Salary: £33,143 – £36,363 a year pro rata
Hours per week: 37
Contract type: Fixed Term/ Secondment for 24 months
This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are quite the same. You’ll be working on the frontline of housing services, supporting vulnerable individuals and families who are often facing difficult and complex circumstances. From assessing housing needs and managing temporary accommodation to liaising with partner agencies and recommending suitable pathways for those experiencing homelessness, your work will be both challenging and deeply rewarding.
You’ll be part of a collaborative team working towards clear goals, but you’ll also be trusted to take the initiative and manage your own workload. Whether you're reviewing a suitability assessment or responding to urgent cases, your ability to stay calm under pressure and deliver solutions will be key.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
If you are a current LBC employee, this position is available to you as a secondment opportunity for up to 24 months. If you are a permanent LBC employee, you must have written approval (an email will suffice) from your manager prior to applying and a copy will need to be submitted with your application. Please note: we will not be able to proceed with your application form without your manager’s permission.
About you
You bring real experience of working in a busy and demanding environment, where teamwork and clear communication are essential. Ideally, you’ll have worked in a frontline housing or social care setting, with direct experience supporting vulnerable people and families.
You’re great at building relationships, whether that’s with external partners, service users, or your colleagues. You know how to listen, negotiate, and problem-solve under pressure. Your written and verbal communication skills are strong—you’re confident explaining information clearly, preparing reports, and handling sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
You’ll need to be well organised, able to juggle competing demands, and comfortable using IT systems like Word, Excel, and databases. If you’ve worked in housing allocations or temporary accommodation before, that’s a bonus—but just as important is your willingness to learn and contribute to the team.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English

Application Process
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
