We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Arboricultural Officer to join our team. In this key role, you will as part of a team deliver all aspects of the Council’s arboricultural service, ensuring our tree management operations are cost-effective, compliant with current legislation, and aligned with best practices.

You will play a vital role in surveying and managing the Council’s tree stock, liaising with contractors, supporting residents, and promoting the Council’s tree policies. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of our local environment and make a positive impact across our community.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver the Council’s arboricultural service to meet objectives, ensure value for money, and maintain compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Survey and monitor the Council’s tree stock in line with our agreed strategy.
  • Work closely with contractors and colleagues to implement our tree management programme effectively.
  • Act as a point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders on tree management matters.
  • Respond to and resolve resident enquiries efficiently, including conducting site visits where required.
  • Prepare reports on tree-related issues, such as insurance claims, dangerous trees, and high hedge applications.
  • Develop and promote innovative schemes that encourage engagement with the Council’s tree policies.
  • Provide technical advice in a consultancy capacity to promote arboricultural best practices.
  • Manage and deliver the arboricultural components of the Council’s We Know Services, including undertaking surveys across the country and preparing technical reports.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds the relevant qualifications including PTI certificate and experience as an arboricultural surveyor,
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with contractors, colleagues, and the public.
  • Demonstrates strong organisational skills and can manage multiple priorities.
  • Is committed to high standards of service delivery and environmental stewardship.
