Assistant Building Surveyor (Focus on Voids)

Are you ready to take the next step in your building surveying career? As an Assistant Building Surveyor, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality voids management across your local area, working closely with the Repairs Team, regional offices, contractors, and wider Property Services colleagues to provide a seamless, customer-focused service.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and progress towards a Building Surveyor role while making a real difference to residents’ homes and wellbeing.

You’ll be joining our Operations Directorate, working within Repairs Operations, a key priority for our organisation. This team is central to delivering safe, well-maintained homes and ensuring residents receive a responsive, high-quality service.

Repairs Operations is critical to our mission: protecting homes, improving living standards, and driving efficiency across our property portfolio. By managing voids and repairs effectively, we help create sustainable communities and deliver on our promise to get things right the first time.

What you’ll do

  • Take full ownership of your assigned void cases from start to finish, ensuring quality, compliance, and value for money.
  • Provide expert technical advice, manage contractor performance, and keep all stakeholders informed throughout the process.
  • Carry out site inspections and surveys, balancing hands-on work with case management.
  • Support resident surgeries when required and participate in an out-of-hours rota for emergencies.
  • Drive improvements and deliver practical, efficient solutions that get it right the first time.

What you’ll need

  • Housing knowledge or experience, ideally from a local authority, council, or housing association environment.
  • Understanding of property portfolios and repairs, including Schedule of Rates and value-for-money principles.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills to manage cases and monitor budgets.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and deliver under pressure.

A technical qualification (Degree, HND, or HNC) is desirable but not essential – your housing experience matters most.
