ASSISTANT HEAD – DATA & SECTION 19 (KS3/4) – L4 – L8 (£55,747 - £61,535)
FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION: – TEACHERS PAY AND CONDITIONS
COMMENCEMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
The Bridge School is an SEMH Pupil Referral Unit for KS3 & KS4 students in the borough of Halton. The school requires an inspirational and committed Assistant Head who will also be an active and influential member of the senior leadership team. The role is a mix of leadership and management, with a requirement to teach, and add breadth to the curriculum.
Your primary responsibility will be to lead the development and implementation of an effective school data and assessment system which reflects the needs of the students and the community. Our community includes the local area and the community of schools we serve. We require a curriculum that promotes the development of literacy and numeracy across a diverse range of subjects and experiences. It is required to be motivational and relevant to transitions into other learning establishments and employment. We require a curriculum that demonstrates sequential learning, consolidation, and the development of independence. It should also have at its core the opportunities to build social skills and learning, and emotional literacy and resilience. You will be responsible for ensuring this vision is applied consistently across the school provisions, with effective outcomes and ever improving levels of attendance and engagement. You will have the communication skills to inspire and lead the staff you work with, and you will possess leadership skills that will enable you and the team to meet the challenges presented.
In addition to the above, this role will also have operational oversite of the borough councils tuition centre. Section 19 students are placed here via a panel and are supported by tutors. The role will be split between main school site and the tuition centre to ensure that policies, procedures and systems are mirrored so that each and every child is receiving the highest quality of educational development.
In order that you can evaluate and quantify the impact of the school’s work in terms of individual, group and provision progress, we require systematic and routine use of relevant data. You will be motivated by how data can help maintain a focus on how individual and group need is being met, and importantly whether our ways of working are effective. The interpretation and presentation of relevant data will help the staff, under your leadership, present and own their solutions and strategies.
As a teacher, you will be able to model the expectations you have for your colleagues, presenting a talent for engaging both reluctant and aspirational learners. Ideally you should be comfortable teaching a breadth of subjects that will enable our small school to provide a broad and versatile curriculum offer. Adaptability and subject breadth will be definite strengths in your application.
Additionally, you will be required to be an outstanding leader in student communication, management, and direction. You should feel confident being the lead person at various times of the day, both structured and unstructured. There will be an expectation from your colleagues that you will be comfortable managing challenging behaviours both on an individual and group level, being confident in your management of reactive situations, but more importantly being skilled at anticipating anxious or challenging behaviour and planning for its prevention, avoidance or engagement.
You will contribute to the culture and development of all aspects of student provision, working closely alongside the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, SENCo, and the other Assistant Headteachers. All our students have some difficulty accessing formal education and require support and solutions that will help them positively engage and make progress. Our students exhibit social, emotional and mental health issues which present through a range of behaviours. You must have a strong desire to support, embrace and be a contributing force in their growth and change.
Our students are a mixture of youngsters who have short-term placements in preparation for integration into mainstream settings, and those students who will be with for longer periods. Some students do not access the larger social environment of the school, and they will need to have equal access to education through alternative curriculums and timetables. You will be a lead person in influencing how these curriculums are developed, and what individual timetables look like.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and implement your leadership skills within a small but vibrant school setting, and to have a significant impact on the life outcomes of the young people in our care, and the teams you lead and work with. We are a small, tight and proud team who welcome passion, commitment, and a desire to overcome and see change. If you think you are this person, please contact the Head Teacher, Arron Stafford. He will be happy to speak to you in detail about the post.
You should note that safeguarding young people is at our core and, if successful, you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check or Enhanced DBS Check for Regulated Activity (formerly Criminal Records Bureau). Further information about DBS checks can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check
The Council and its schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff, workers and volunteers to share this commitment.
The Bridge School is an equal opportunities organisation which welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
