Assistant Head Teacher

Salary: Leadership Scale L6 – L11

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Start: September 2026

At Crownfield Junior, we believe in working as a team for the children that we are responsible for and care for. We believe that our children are at the centre of all we do, encouraging and supporting them to be the best that they can be. We treat the children as individuals and understand that their needs are unique to them.

We are looking for someone new, someone like-minded, to join our well-motivated, happy team as an Assistant Head Teacher. Successful applicants must already have current experience of a School Leadership role and be able to support the vision and strategic focus to enhance the education of all pupils in the school and across the federation.

We are extremely proud of our school and the broad curriculum we offer. We are a three/four-form entry and partner with the Mawney Foundation School as the Learning and Achieving Federation, through which we exchange good practice and resources to continue our journeys forward.

Our Ofsted Report in July 2023 stated:

'Pupils at this school are kind, polite and hard-working. In lessons, they listen to their teachers and to each other.'

'Pupils with SEND are quickly identified and are very well supported to study the same broad curriculum as their classmates. Teachers and leaders work together to identify strategies that best meet these pupils' needs.'

'Safeguarding is prioritised and leaders are tenacious in securing support for the most vulnerable pupils.'

'Staff feel well-supported by leaders.'

The Role

As Assistant Head Teacher, your exact role and specific responsibilities will be agreed annually and will change, to allow you the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of school leadership in preparation for Headship. You will lead in areas such as safeguarding, curriculum development, systems and procedures, timetabling, monitoring standards and teacher effectiveness, tracking and analysis of results/data, behaviour management, external relations and community links, staff development, training and induction.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will also be centrally involved in the overall leadership and management of the school and will help to establish a school culture that is both nurturing and rigorous.

What we can offer you

  • A child-centered school community.
  • Kind and hard-working pupils.
  • A new and energetic leadership team, supported by a dedicated staff body.
  • Potential for career progression.

We are lucky to be set in beautiful grounds. Our children are great to work with: polite, enthusiastic, hard working with a sense of fun! We have a very supportive staff who work together for the good of the children – they have a sense of humour too!

Visits to the school are encouraged. Please phone our reception on 01708 747070 to arrange a time for a visit and tour of the school. You may also wish to look at our website for further information.
