
Assistant Manager - Governance Office
Job summary
As Assistant Manager in the Governance Office, you will play a central role in supporting the Company Secretary (Assistant Director – Governance) and the wider governance team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, consistent governance across the organisation. Your work will directly contribute to confident, timely executive decision-making, supporting the smooth operation of Board and Committee meetings, and maintaining excellent relationships with senior stakeholders.
You will coordinate and manage key governance activities, provide operational and administrative support, and maintain clear, efficient processes that ensure all governance outputs meet required standards. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will foster collaboration, share best practice, and help implement continuous improvements to governance processes.
This role requires a professional who is organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. You will be a trusted point of contact for internal colleagues and senior stakeholders, supporting the team in delivering a first-class service and enhancing the reputation and effectiveness of the Governance Office.

Job description
- Support the Governance leadership team in coordinating priorities and maintaining clear processes for efficient delivery of governance outputs.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with Board Members, Independent Experts, Executive Directors, Directors, and their teams, ensuring reliable support and clear communication.
- Act as a key contact point for internal colleagues, responding to queries and supporting positive working relationships across the organisation.
- Collaborate with colleagues in administrative and corporate support roles to share best practice and ensure consistent ways of working.
- Provide comprehensive operational and administrative support to the Governance team, including activity and KPI reporting.
- Plan and coordinate logistical arrangements for meetings and events, ensuring agendas, papers, and actions meet required standards; facilitate or take minutes for informal meetings as required.
- Coordinate diaries and travel for the Company Secretary, applying judgement to balance time-critical commitments while supporting other team members.
- Support the delivery of projects or ad-hoc task-and-finish work by coordinating information, activity, and timelines.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, maintaining robust administrative systems and embracing emerging technologies to improve efficiency.
- Assist in the successful delivery of team and directorate events, managing logistics, forward planners, and calendars.
Person specification
- Proven experience providing high-quality operational and administrative support in a complex organisation.
- Skilled in organising, prioritising, and managing multiple concurrent deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and digital collaboration tools.
- Sound understanding of governance operations, meeting cycles, and procedural requirements.
- Confident in applying judgement to resolve operational issues within established procedures.
- High standard of written accuracy and quality-assurance capability.
- Able to communicate confidently and influence senior stakeholders, building strong working relationships.
- Experience maintaining or improving administrative systems or workflows.
- Able to interpret, explain, and implement governance processes clearly for others.
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently and proactively to support the smooth functioning of governance forums and decision-making processes.
- Resilient, professional, and highly organised, capable of contributing to a high-performing Governance Office that delivers a first-class service.
