We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and community-focused Assistant Neighbourhood Officer to join our Neighbourhoods department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with supervisory experience and a passion for frontline service delivery to contribute to the development and maintenance of clean, safe and attractive neighbourhoods.

About the Role
As an Assistant Neighbourhood Officer, you will support the Neighbourhood Officer in delivering frontline environmental and neighbourhood services across the borough. Working with Council colleagues, local residents and partner organisations, you will help ensure neighbourhood maintenance programmes are effectively delivered and responsive to local needs.

You will be responsible for supervising Neighbourhood Team Leaders, frontline teams, apprentices and temporary workers, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. The role will also involve supporting training programmes, health and safety compliance, workforce development and community engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Neighbourhood Team Leaders and operational teams to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Assist with workforce planning, allocating resources and managing workloads.
  • Coordinate training and development programmes, including horticultural apprenticeships and similar schemes.
  • Support the monitoring of health and safety compliance, including accident investigations and hand-arm vibration controls.
  • Assist with employee wellbeing initiatives, return-to-work interviews and sickness monitoring.
  • Work with local communities and partners to identify and address environmental and neighbourhood issues.
  • Help develop strong partnerships across the Council and external organisations to improve local service delivery.
  • Support emergency response, adverse weather operations and business continuity arrangements when required.
