Post: Assistant Planning Officer (Policy and Projects)
Salary: £35,286.16 p.a.
If you have (or shortly expect to have) a degree in Town Planning, Geography or a related field and are a motivated self-starter looking for an excellent grounding in planning policy and town planning, we would like to hear from you.
Broxbourne Council’s current Local Plan has generated many exciting development projects across the Borough but is now over five years old and is due for a review. The next update to the Local Plan will identify locations for a range of developments, including for housing, employment and other land uses. Now is an excellent time to join the team and play a key role in this important work.
Broxbourne is located on the northern edge of London and is only 30 minutes from London Liverpool Street Station by train. The Lee Valley Regional Park and high-quality Green Belt together with intense pressure for development means that the challenge of finding suitable locations for growth is considerable.
In addition to planning policy work you will be part of a small, successful team that includes a specialist in working with developer financial contributions to fund vital infrastructure. You will assist with progression of a new Community Infrastructure Levy and infrastructure planning to ensure that a range of hard and soft green infrastructure supports new developments.
The successful candidate will be willing and able to learn quickly and apply the skills learned from their studies. They will be able to communicate well in both written and spoken English.
We have adopted the core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Effectiveness and Respect (TIER). The values and their underlying behaviours, demonstrate our commitment to providing excellent customer care, working in a joined-up way, showing respect at all times and looking at innovation and forward-thinking solutions. We pride ourselves on recruiting, developing and retaining talent who share this commitment.
We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
The Council’s benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.
Details and application forms for all job vacancies are listed on the Council’s website.
Application forms must be submitted online by Sunday 2 August 2026 quoting the above reference.
