Temporary (15 months), Full time, 37 hours per week

Are you passionate about supporting autistic children and young people? Do you have the knowledge, skills and experience to support families at a crucial stage of their journey?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Autism Family Practitioner to join our Autism Information and Advice Service within Children's Disability Services on a temporary basis for 15 months. This is an exciting opportunity to provide specialist advice and guidance to families whose child or young person is awaiting assessment or has recently received an autism diagnosis.

As an Autism Family Practitioner, you will work directly with parents and carers, helping them navigate the challenges and opportunities that can follow diagnosis.

Through one-to-one advice sessions, workshops and training opportunities, you will use your expertise to provide tailored information, reassurance, practical strategies and signposting to appropriate services. You will play a key role in helping families build confidence, understand their child's needs and access the support available to them.

Flexible and home working arrangements are offered within this role.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing specialist autism information, advice and guidance to parents, carers and families.
  • Delivering advice sessions that are strengths-based, person-centred and tailored to individual family needs.
  • Planning, developing and facilitating workshops, training sessions and group activities on autism-related topics.
  • Working collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partner agencies to ensure coordinated support.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service monitoring and evaluation.
  • Keeping up to date with autism research, best practice and local support services.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of the Autism Information and Advice Service.

We Are Looking for Someone Who Brings

  • A Level 6 qualification, or equivalent knowledge gained through experience.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and their families.
  • Experience of supporting autistic children and young people with complex and enduring needs.
  • A strong understanding of sensory processing differences and other autism-related needs.
  • The ability to provide practical, compassionate and evidence-informed advice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills and experience of maintaining accurate records.
  • The ability to manage workload effectively and meet performance targets.
