The Role: Impact & Leadership
As our Building Surveying Manager, you will hold professional leadership over the Council's housing maintenance and major capital improvement programmes. Managing a dedicated team of Chartered surveying professionals and technical officers, you will ensure our housing stock remains safe, compliant, and modern.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead & Mentor: Head a high-performing technical team, overseeing work allocation, performance appraisals, and career development.
- Complex Project Delivery: Act as the senior lead on high-value procurement, complex capital projects, and design workflows (CAD).
- Strategic Influence: Formulate responsive repairs and major capital HRA improvement programmes, collaborating directly with Senior Management, stakeholders, and Councillors.
- Asset Management Excellence: Oversee feasibility studies, contract specifications, and risk management compliance (CDM, building regs, health & safety).
- Budgetary Control: Strategically manage and monitor significant asset budgets to maximize value and service delivery.
What We Are Looking For
To excel in this role, you will bring a blend of technical expertise and natural leadership:
- Qualifications: A Bachelor of Science degree in a building-services-related field (or equivalent professional building qualification) combined with roughly 5 years of qualitative post-qualification experience.
- Professional Status: Membership in a building-related professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
- Expertise: Extensive experience in project management, staff supervision, and managing complex building contracts.
- Compliance Knowledge: Solid grasp of health and safety legislation (an IOSH or NEBOSH certificate is a plus) and standard forms of building contracts.
- Skills: Excellent negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate complex customer and stakeholder environments.
Note: Due to the nature of the role, occasional attendance at evening meetings or working outside standard hours will be required.
