Building Surveyor
Building Surveyors – North- East Region
Are you a technically qualified Building Surveyor who enjoys solving complex property issues and making a real difference to residents’ homes?
We’re recruiting two Building Surveyors to join our Repairs Operations team, supporting homes across North-East London. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our properties are safe, well maintained and compliant, delivering a high‑quality, resident‑focused surveying service.
This is a varied and hands‑on role, ideal for a surveyor who enjoys managing complex casework, working collaboratively, and applying strong technical judgement in a social housing environment.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing a varied caseload of complex repairs and defects, carrying out technical surveys, inspections and detailed specifications.
- Leading on specialist and statutory cases including damp and mould, disrepair, Environmental Health notices and Housing Ombudsman enquiries.
- Overseeing contractor performance using Schedule of Rates (SOR), challenging over‑coding and ensuring value‑for‑money outcomes.
- Providing clear, professional technical advice and recommendations to residents, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Working closely with contractors and internal teams to ensure works are delivered safely on time and to standard.
- Keeping residents informed throughout each case, with clear, empathetic and timely communication.
- Attending resident forums and supporting local engagement across North-East London.
- Working from Hugh Cubitt Centre, Islington every Monday, with agile working across the estate and local hubs for the rest of the week.
What we’re looking for
- Extensive experience of building surveying, with strong knowledge of building pathology, preferably within a social housing or local authority environment.
- A degree in Building Surveying or a similar technical qualification, or HND/HNC in a building or construction-related discipline.
- Proven experience managing complex repair or defect cases, including damp and mould and disrepair.
- Demonstrable experience of managing customer relationships and delivering high levels of customer care and satisfaction.
- Experience of building strong working relationships with contractors and a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience using M3 NHF Schedule of Rates (Version 8 preferred), including cost control and value-for-money challenge.
- Strong communication, organisation and IT skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to residents.
