The Headteacher and Governors of Duddon St Peter’s CofE Primary School (federated with Barrow CofE Primary School) are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly organised Bursar to join our friendly and dedicated team from January 2027 or sooner if possible, following the retirement of our current postholder.

Duddon St Peter’s CofE Primary School is a small, friendly and nurturing school with a team of dedicated staff who are committed to our vision of “Let Your Light Shine”. Our children are happy, confident and thrive both academically and socially through our inclusive and highly supportive ethos. We pride ourselves on our strong sense of community, caring ethos and committed staff team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to make a significant contribution to the strategic leadership and operational management of our school.

The Bursar plays a vital role in ensuring the effective and efficient running of the school's business functions. Working closely with the Headteacher and Governors, you will lead on financial management, oversee the day-to-day operation of the school office, and manage personnel administration, helping to ensure the school continues to provide the very best education for our pupils.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience of financial management, including budget planning, monitoring, forecasting, preparation of accounts and statutory financial reporting.
  • Experience of using financial and management information systems, together with excellent IT skills.
  • Knowledge of HR administration and employment processes, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, governors and external agencies.
  • A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Previous experience of working in a school would be an advantage; however, we recognise that many applicants will bring valuable transferable skills from other sectors. If you have strong financial and administrative experience, excellent organisational skills, and a willingness to learn, we would be delighted to hear from you. Appropriate training and professional development will be provided to support the successful candidate.

Duddon St Peter’s will offer:

  • A welcoming, inclusive and supportive school community.
  • Friendly, dedicated and hardworking colleagues.
  • A varied and rewarding role with opportunities to make a real difference.
  • Ongoing professional development and training.
  • Supportive leadership and an engaged Governing Board.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children. The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS disclosure and will follow a stringent vetting and induction process. The school will also undertake a digital screen as part of their due diligence on all shortlisted candidates.

Prospective candidates are warmly invited to contact the school for further information, please contact the school admin on 01829 781366 or via admin@dstp.cheshire.sch.uk.
