Job summary
The Business Planning Manager role sits within the Planning, Projects and Business Insights function of the Housing Ombudsman Service which is responsible for leading the processes to help us achieve our vision and values through our corporate strategy development, annual business and service planning processes, and statutory annual reporting.This role will work closely with colleagues in other corporate enabling services teams to ensure that business plans, service plans/catalogues, and resource plans align with the corporate strategic direction, financial objectives, and delivery priorities, enabling informed decision-making, communications and effective reporting.
Job description
- Develop and embed best practice annual business planning processes, cycles, review and approvals built on a good understanding of the organisation's current position and future vision, key stakeholders, external environment and related interdependencies.
- Act as a trusted adviser to senior leaders, helping them shape robust, realistic, prioritise and aligned plans by embedding annual service planning, translating requirements from the corporate and annual business plans to deliver the golden thread down to staff objectives.
- Ensure planning processes comply with organisational governance, regulatory, and assurance requirements, and use data, insight, and lessons learnt to drive more effective planning
- Work collaboratively with corporate enabling services colleagues to ensure project delivery, governance, financial (budgets and forecasting), people (workforce capacity and resource planning) and business reporting requirements are met and monitor performance against plans, identifying risks, issues, and opportunities.
- Successfully manage, support and stretch self and team to deliver agreed priorities, goals, objectives and timescales.
- Co-ordinate the business continuity update and testing programme, ensuring the organisation is prepared for a crisis event.
- Co-ordinate the production of the Annual Report and laying of the Annual Report and Accounts.
- Co-ordinate key work with Comms & Stakeholder Engagement colleagues to disseminate internal and external messaging on business and continuity planning.
- Ensure compliance with all corporate requirements associated with the role, including functional standards.
- Produce high-quality reports and insights for executive and board-level audiences.
- Provide effective line management and development to the Business Planning function and team
- Coach, inspire, motivate and seek development opportunities for self and for staff.
Person specification
For this pivotal role, you’ll offer significant experience in business planning and/or corporate planning and the production of strategic/annual business plans. This will include development of service planning reflecting the ‘golden thread’ from corporate plans down to staff objectives. You’ll offer excellent communication skills and will be adept at working with and influencing senior stakeholders, with proven skills in presenting high-quality briefings and insights at executive and Board level.
