
Business Services Assistant

An exciting opportunity has opened within Derbyshire County Council’s Specialised Transport Services, which include Commissioning and Compliance, for a Business Services Assistant (BSA) who is motivated, proactive, organised, and dedicated to providing the best possible service to our clients.
About the Role:
The service plays a vital role in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) by arranging and managing home-to-school transport for around 1800 students across Derbyshire and beyond. As a BSA, you will provide essential administrative support for arranging, procuring and maintaining the transport services, while assisting with contracts and ensuring compliance within passenger transport services, working closely with various stakeholders, including parents/carers, schools, operators and internal teams at DCC ensuring the smooth operation of our home-school-transport services.
This role includes working on a team rota between 8:00am and 5:00pm, depending on service needs

What we’re looking for:
We require someone who has the following qualities and who can bring energy, organization, and a positive can-do approach to a front-line service. You should be able to demonstrate experience of working in fast-moving environment and be ready to hit the ground running.
- Strong self-management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads
- Excellent Organisational and Communication skills, both written and verbal
- A solid understanding of data managements systems and financial processes
- Proficiency in ICT systems, particularly MS Office Applications
- A sharp eye for detail with the confidence to question and check information
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- A good understanding of confidentiality and data protection guidelines and legislation
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact, addressing issues and providing support for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor contract performance and escalate issues where necessary.
- Provide administrative support including note‑taking and document management.
- Maintain and organise records and data, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
