An exciting opportunity has arisen within Business Services for two Business Services Senior Co-ordinators on a temporary basis for 12 months.

We are looking for motivated and experienced individuals who can provide effective leadership to our Business Services teams, supporting staff to deliver high-quality, professional administrative services to key Council service areas.

These roles provide an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience of leading and supervising administrative teams who are keen to develop their management experience, support service improvement and play an important role in strengthening the support we provide to our customers and colleagues.

We have two vacancies available:

Refuse & Recycling / Strategic Waste
Base: Hackworth Road, Peterlee

This post will provide first-line management and leadership to the Business Services staff supporting Refuse & Recycling and Strategic Waste.

You will work closely with the Business Services Team Leader and colleagues within the operational service to ensure effective administrative support is provided, workloads are managed appropriately and the team continues to respond effectively to service requirements.

Your normal place of work will be Hackworth Road, Peterlee, although you may be required to travel to other locations as part of the role.

Fleet
Base: Meadowfield Depot

This post will provide dedicated first-line management and leadership to the Business Services staff supporting Fleet.

You will develop a strong understanding of the service and work closely with Fleet colleagues to ensure that Business Services support continues to meet operational requirements across the service.

Your normal place of work will be Meadowfield Depot. The role will require regular travel between the four main Fleet depot sites, so applicants should consider the travel requirements of the position when applying.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

As a Business Services Senior Co-ordinator, you will provide first-line people management to a team of Business Services staff and help ensure the delivery of high-quality business support and administrative functions.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing effective line management, direction and support to Business Services staff.
  • Managing staff performance, development and wellbeing.
  • Managing workloads and priorities to ensure service requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Supporting staff through change and promoting a positive team culture.
  • Building effective working relationships with the services your team supports.
  • Resolving issues and responding effectively to queries from customers and colleagues.
  • Developing and reviewing processes, procedures and guidance.
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement and new ways of working.
  • Supporting the development of staff knowledge, skills and training.
  • Championing the effective use of digital technology.
  • Managing day-to-day HR processes, including performance and sickness absence management.
  • Working collaboratively across Business Services and sharing knowledge and good practice.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills and who are confident managing people within a busy working environment.

You will need to have experience of leading and supervising an administrative team, including experience of motivating staff, managing organisational change, developing and reviewing procedures and contributing to continuous improvement activities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively under pressure and build positive relationships with both staff and the services you support.

You should also have good knowledge of business support and administrative systems and functions, together with knowledge of IT systems, particularly Microsoft packages.

Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject and have the ability to travel as required by the role.

Experience of managing multiple teams across different locations and experience of financial systems, controls and processes would be advantageous.
