About the team

This is a fixed term contract / secondment opportunity until the end of September 2026. The opportunity exists due to the secondment of the current post holder to a more senior role within Business Support.

We are looking for a Senior Business Support officer to work as part of a team of business support staff providing administration and business support to the Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere Services for Young People Team. Services for Young People are the primary provider of youth work, career education information advice guidance and work-related learning in Hertfordshire and work with vulnerable young people to address emerging needs, improve life chances, and reduce escalation to more expensive and intensive services. This includes supporting those challenged in education, their community or home life, to ensure a successful transition to adulthood. The young people we work with are typically 11-17 and 18 to 25 if they are Care Leavers or have SEND.

About the role

The role is varied and would provide a full range of reception / front of house, administrative, finance and senior office duties (including oversight of the work of the wider team) to support the full offer to young people at our Young People’s Centres based in the Watford / Three Rivers district.

The role is primarily office based (Apsley / Watford base) and will require the ability to travel across several HCC sites in the Watford / Three Rivers / Hertsmere area

About you

Essential:

  • Experience of working in a previous administrative or support role
  • Organisational and multitasking skills
  • Experience in taking notes would be beneficial
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with a range of audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
  • Experience in working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of specialised processes and methods gained through relevant training and experience.
  • Ability to plan own work over short timescales for routine or familiar tasks and processes and use your initiative to work independently.
  • GCSE or Vocational equivalent, strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Enthusiasm and pride in your work are qualities we welcome.
  • You will be used to working to tight deadlines and with high accuracy in written correspondence.

Desirable:

  • Support with coaching and training others
  • Experience in processing invoices and handling financial transactions.
