Job summary
As a Casework Area Lead, you will play a pivotal role at the heart of the Planning and Environmental Appeals Service, driving the smooth, timely and high quality delivery of planning and environmental appeals that help shape places, communities and the environment.
You will lead and inspire operational teams responsible for ensuring that every appeal is handled with accuracy, fairness and professionalism, in line with statutory requirements and customer service standards.
This is a role with real impact. Your leadership will directly influence the experience of appellants, local authorities, Inspectors and key stakeholders across England, supporting trust and confidence in the planning system. In doing so, you will help advance the Inspectorate’s mission to deliver a modern, efficient and customer focused appeals service.

Job description

This role focuses on leading teams, managing performance and ensuring the effective and timely delivery of appeals.
Day to day work involves overseeing casework quality, balancing workloads, using performance data to identify and address issues, and providing senior support on complex procedural matters.
The role includes developing and supporting team members, maintaining a positive and inclusive working environment, engaging with key stakeholders across the appeals system, and contributing to service improvement and organisational change. A strong focus on health, safety and wellbeing underpins all activity.

Salary
New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band. Internal rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.
This role is being advertised at HEO grade which has a starting salary of £37,579.
Working hours:
Standard working week is 37 hours. Part time at 30 hours or above, flexible working hours policy available.
Office Attendance
This role is contractually based at our office in Bristol, 10-minute walk from Temple Meads train station. We recognise and value the mutual benefits of hybrid working and have a flexible approach to in person attendance, which can vary dependent on the requirements of individual business units - the details of which can be discussed with candidates if invited to attend an interview.
