Casual Seasonal Train Drivers/Cashiers – Volk’s Electric Railway, Brighton Seafront
Join the team at the historic Volk’s Electric Railway, the oldest operating electric railway in the world, and help us deliver a memorable experience to thousands of visitors along Brighton’s iconic seafront.
We are currently recruiting casual seasonal Train Drivers/Cashiers for the 2026 summer season. If you are enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate about heritage transport and customer service, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role
You will work from 9th March to 30th September, with day shifts including weekends and bank holidays when required. As part of a small, close-knit team, you’ll be responsible for:
Safely driving passenger trains (if rostered)
Assisting passengers on and off the train with care and attention
Selling tickets and handling cash/card transactions
Providing friendly, informative customer service
Supporting general station duties and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment
Full training, including health and safety, customer service, and train operation, will be provided.
What We’re Looking For
- We’re seeking individuals who are:
- 18 years or older (required for train driving) and comfortable working in environments with a maximum train headroom of 5ft 10in."
- Physically fit, able to stand for long periods and work outdoors in all weather
- Emotionally intelligent, with the ability to remain calm, courteous, and empathetic in a variety of customer-facing situations
- Resilient, able to handle busy days and unexpected challenges with a positive attitude
- Team players, who thrive in a small, supportive team and contribute to a respectful, cheerful working environment
- Punctual and reliable, always arriving prepared and ready to deliver excellent service
- Customer-focused, with previous experience in a public-facing role preferred
- Able to pass a medical assessment
- Committed to upholding our strict no drugs or alcohol policy

Additional information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Salary range
