Job description
As a member of a small team, you will be providing support to forces in respect of achieving quality assurance and licensing standards. You will be implementing and maintaining an auditable quality assurance process for CED - Taser training to Specially Trained Officers (STOs) within UK police forces and agencies. We therefore need an operationally competent Taser lead instructor with an eye for detail and an ability to provide evidenced feedback and guidance based on current national policy and training.
Person specification
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Implement and maintain quality assurance processes that underpin the CED STO training licence. Ensure such processes mirror existing armed policing and associated College systems, ensuring a consistent approach by forces.
- Build and maintain relationships with chief instructors, their deputies and compliance managers. Provide advice and support to achieve established standards. Use subject matter expertise to provide an established point of contact for forces to resolve enquiries and escalate issues that sit outside current practice, where necessary, to supervisor
- Reflecting on knowledge and experience of relevant standards, quality assure the delivery of CED training in UK forces and agencies. Gather and analyse evidence and produce clear concise reports to inform licence status decisions and support development plans where appropriate. Compile reports within established timeframes.
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
- Qualified Trainer to meet the Police Sector Standard for Trainers through either a Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development, a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent or through the College of Policing Training Essentials Programme or be willing to achieve the Level 4 diploma within 18 months (Or Level 3 award and working towards level 4).
- Qualified as Taser Lead Instructor (as per national role profile).
- IOSH award (or commitment to work towards)
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, recommend and build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and staff to achieve timely results
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to translate technical and academic language into an appropriate format and style for all stakeholders
- Attention to detail to provide analysis, evidence and information to support recommendations for improvements
- Excellent standard of planning and organisational ability
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment dealing with a range of tasks simultaneously
- Open to receive and give feedback; value diversity and difference; and to work as part of a team to achieve objectives

- Comprehensive knowledge of CED curriculum and role profiles.
- Understanding of the requirements of the Code of Practice on Armed Policing and the Police use of Less Lethal Weapons 2020 (The Code)
- Relevant experience in design, development and/or quality assurance of training packages to national NPFTC/CED curriculum standards.
- Experience of delivering Taser training to College curriculum standards.

This role is available as a secondment opportunity to:
- serving police officers substantive in the rank of PC. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.
- serving police staff at the equivalent rank of PC who have their chief officer's approval. Chief Officer’s approval must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC. Approval for a secondment must accompany an application. For people applying from force on promotion (substantive or eligible for temporary promotion) eligibility is dependent on you having passed NPPF Step 3 or Ready to commence WBA.
- Please note applicants applying from force must have approval for a secondment, without this your application will not progress beyond sift, even if you are successful.
