Teach differently. Lead differently. Change lives.
At Solar Campus, we believe that some young people simply need a different approach, not less ambition, but an education built around relationships, trust and belonging.
Every lesson is an opportunity to rebuild confidence. Every interaction has the potential to change a young person's future.
If you became a teacher to make a genuine difference, Solar offers an opportunity unlike any other.
About Solar Campus
Solar Campus is an innovative specialist provision within The Observatory School, supporting pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs whose placements in larger school environments have broken down.
Our pupils are bright, capable and full of potential. Many have experienced disrupted education, trauma or significant barriers to learning. Our role is to help them reconnect with education, develop confidence and prepare successfully for adulthood.
Our classes are deliberately small, allowing staff the time and opportunity to build meaningful relationships, understand each young person and deliver highly personalised learning.
Education at Solar extends far beyond the classroom. Alongside core academic subjects, pupils access a rich programme of vocational learning, outdoor education, preparation for adulthood, enrichment activities and personalised pathways that enable them to rediscover success.
Why choose Solar?
At Solar, you'll find far more than a teaching job.
You'll become part of a passionate team committed to changing life chances for some of the most vulnerable young people in our community.
We offer:
-Small class sizes with excellent staff-to-pupil ratios
-High levels of teaching assistant support
-A calm, relationship-led environment where teaching comes first
-A creative curriculum combining academic, vocational and outdoor learning
-Opportunities to teach beyond the traditional classroom
-Extensive CPD including trauma-informed practice, SEMH, behaviour, safeguarding and leadership
-Opportunities to lead projects, develop specialist interests and influence curriculum innovation
-A supportive leadership team who genuinely value staff wellbeing
The chance to shape the future of an exciting and expanding specialist provision
No two days at Solar are ever the same - and that's exactly how we like it.
The Role
Working closely with the Head of School, Assistant Head and wider Solar team, you will deliver high-quality teaching to small groups of pupils with complex SEMH needs.
You'll create engaging, ambitious lessons that promote progress whilst recognising that relationships, regulation and emotional safety are the foundations upon which successful learning is built.
You will:
-Deliver engaging and adaptive lessons across the curriculum
-Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils
-Support emotional regulation alongside academic progress
-Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists and external professionals
-Contribute to the ongoing development of Solar's innovative curriculum
-Play an active role in shaping the future direction of the provision
-One lesson might involve teaching Functional Skills English to six pupils. The next could see you supporting a vocational project, outdoor learning or helping a young person achieve something they previously believed impossible.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an exceptional teacher with the right values.
You may already work within SEMH or SEND education, or you may currently teach in mainstream and be looking for a more rewarding way to make a difference.
Previous SEMH experience is welcomed but is not essential.
What matters most is that you:
-Believe every young person deserves a fresh start
-Are passionate about inclusive education
-Build positive, authentic relationships
-Have consistently strong classroom practice
-Can adapt teaching to meet a wide range of individual needs
-Remain calm, reflective and solution-focused under pressure
-Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a highly supportive team
-Have high expectations whilst leading with empathy and compassion
-Are resilient, reflective and eager to continue learning
Your emotional intelligence, integrity and ability to inspire young people will be every bit as important as your teaching experience.
Professional Development
As Solar continues to grow, so do the opportunities available to our staff.
You'll benefit from:
-Bespoke SEMH and trauma-informed CPD
-Coaching and mentoring from experienced leaders
-Opportunities to develop curriculum leadership
-Support towards future leadership roles
