JOB PURPOSE
- To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school’s policies under the direction of the Headteacher
- Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document
- Meet the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards
This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the Headteacher and member of staff, and will be reviewed annually.
Duties and responsibilities
Teaching
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school’s curriculum and schemes of work
- Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
- Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
- Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
- Participate in preparing pupils for external tests
Whole-school organisation, strategy and development
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures to support the school’s vision and values
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
- Work with others on curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated outcomes
Health, safety and discipline
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils
- Maintain good order and discipline among pupils effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
Professional development
- Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures
- Take part in further training and development
- Take part in the appraisal and professional development of others, where appropriate
Communication
- Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers
Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals
- Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
Personal and professional conduct
- Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school
- Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality
- Understand and act within the statutory frameworks setting out their professional duties and responsibilities
Safeguarding
- Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance and our safeguarding and child protection policies
- Work with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils
- Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school

What You Need to Succeed

Qualifications, Training and experience
· Qualified teacher status
· Evidence of practice in Key Stage 2
· Evidence of Subject leadership (not applicable to ECT)
· Evidence of ongoing personal professional development
· Recent practice in Year 4
· Desire to lead a subject across a Primary setting
Professional knowledge and understanding
Understanding of:
· What constitutes excellent primary practice needed to promote high quality teaching and learning
· Approaches to planning, assessing, monitoring and evaluating the curriculum
· Provision for children who are vulnerable
· The importance of forming and maintaining appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children
· The current legal requirements, national policies and guidance on the safeguarding and promotion of the well-being of children and young people
Understanding of:
· Have an up-to-date knowledge of current teaching and wider curricular developments, particularly in Year 4
· Experience of promoting and developing good relationships
· The school improvement process and how data can be analysed effectively to raise standards
Teaching skills
· A reflective and creative practitioner
·Ability to use a range of teaching styles and strategies to ensure high levels of pupil engagement, learning and achievement
· Ability to motivate and enthuse pupils
· Ability to ensure full inclusion of all pupils
·Ability to deploy Learning Support Assistants effectively
·Strong ICT skills
· Ability to create a purposeful and safe learning environment
· Experience of making a significant impact on the progress of children’s learning
