About the role
There is an exciting opportunity to join the Strategic Commissioning Team at West Northants Council. You will be part of a dynamic team that work hard to develop and commission a range of high quality, diverse and responsive care and support services to meet local need for our adult population. We are looking for someone with experience in either social care or commissioning to join our team. As Commissioning Officer you will support commissioning to implement commissioning strategies, contribute to the needs analysis, market testing, and review of all our commissioned services. In addition, you’ll help ensure robust processes are in place to monitor provider performance and support continuous improvement across adult social care and housing commissioned services. In return you will receive support and recognition for your contribution to improving the lives and wellbeing of residents in West Northants.
Interviews for the role will take place on 3rd & 4th December 2025.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to a basic DBS certificate. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Additional information
You will be educated to degree level or be able to demonstrate experience of working at that level in social care or commissioning. There is a need to have strong communication skills enabling you to engage with people who access support services as well as interacting across all partner organisations. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead projects and have delivered successful outcomes. Being able to organise and prioritise your own workload and meet deadlines within a pressured environment is essential. Most importantly you will have a passion for commissioning, monitoring and delivering high quality services to support people to live their best lives possible.
We’re looking for a highly organised and collaborative individual with strong project management experience and excellent interpersonal skills. You’ll be confident communicating and influencing at all levels, including with partner organisations, councillors, and service users.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in analysing and interpreting data to produce clear, concise reports and briefings, and will have a good working knowledge of adult social care, housing, health policy, and information governance. You’ll understand the importance of consultation and engagement and be familiar with project and programme management tools. Proficiency in Office 365 is essential, and experience in commissioning and monitoring public services is desirable.
