Salary: £32,070 - £34,359 per annum (Pro rata for part time)

Working Hours: 37 hours

Contract Type: Fixed term until March 2029

We have a vacancy for a Communications and Engagement Officer (Grade 9) to deliver key comms and media to transform public transport in Leicestershire through the bus service improvement project. This is a government funded post, and an opportunity for someone to join our team on a 3 year contract (until end March 2029).

About the Role

We're looking for a experienced, proactive, creative and audience‑focused Communications and Engagement Officer to help deliver our bus service improvement programme. This is an exciting opportunity to shape high‑profile work that supports communities, strengthens local partnerships and enhances the council’s reputation.

In this role, you’ll plan, deliver and evaluate communications and engagement activities that make a real difference. You’ll work closely with colleagues across our Communications and Digital Team, as well as district, town and parish councils, community groups, businesses and national partners.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to

  • Be educated to a level 4, or relevant experience.
  • Have experience of working in a press office or marketing environment. Create high‑quality, audience‑focused content for media, digital and face‑to‑face channels.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, partners and media organisations. Have knowledge of digital and social media.
  • Spot and escalate risks to reputation, using insight and evaluation to shape activity.
  • Plan and deliver engagement events such as roadshows, meetings and community activities, out and about across the county.
  • Manage a busy workload, adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively across teams. Deliver effective communications and engagement activity that supports key council programmes.
  • Uphold council values, brand standards while using resources responsibly.
