An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Communications and Marketing Officer in partnership with Bird Aware Essex. If you are creative and driven, and keen to play a key role in developing and delivering engaging communication and marketing activities that promote the project’s aims, strengthen the Bird Aware Essex brand, and inspire behaviour change among coastal visitors then we would love to hear from you.

Bird Aware Essex is a partnership initiative working to protect the internationally important birdlife of the Essex coast. The project aims to raise awareness of coastal birds and encourage responsible recreation so that people and wildlife can share the coast harmoniously.

Working as part of our friendly and passionate team, the successful applicant will lead on the development of online and offline communications, social media, marketing campaigns and media relations to increase the visibility and impact of the project. Alongside this, duties include supporting collaborative working with partner organisations as well as rangers and other members of the Bird Aware Essex team to ensure a consistent and professional approach to all communications.

Applicants will be experienced communications or marketing professionals with a proven ability to plan, deliver and evaluate campaigns across multiple channels, possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to translate complex environmental messages into clear and engaging content.

The post holder will be confident using a range of digital tools and platforms, including social media management, website editing, analytics and design software such as Canva. A creative approach, combined with good organisational and time management skills, will be essential. A genuine interest in wildlife, conservation and the natural environment is highly desirable, as is the ability to work effectively with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.

The post requires flexibility, with some occasional travel to coastal locations for photography, filming and events, and occasional work outside normal office hours.

Please note that this role is currently on a part time basis (3 days per week) and fixed term for 24 months.

Interviews are currently scheduled for the week commencing 17th November 2025.
