We’re looking for a creative and driven Communications Officer to join our corporate communications team and help deliver impactful campaigns that support the council’s priorities. This is an exciting opportunity to plan, deliver and evaluate communications that protect and enhance our reputation, influence behaviour and support income generation across a wide range of services.

About the Role

Working as part of a busy, multi‑disciplinary communications unit, you’ll create high‑quality content for a variety of channels – from media and digital to internal communications and face‑to‑face engagement. You’ll use social and commercial marketing techniques to reach audiences effectively, while working within our brand guidelines and legal controls on local government publicity.

You’ll be confident working in partnership with colleagues across the organisation, as well as with external partners including health, police, districts and voluntary sector organisations. You’ll also have a strong grasp of evaluation, using research and insight to shape activity and demonstrate how your work contributes to council objectives.

We’re looking for someone who is positive, flexible and audience‑focused, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. You’ll be comfortable spotting reputational risks, advising stakeholders, and representing the council professionally. The role is based at County Hall, and may occasionally require working outside normal office hours.

For information on our approach to the recruitment of ex-offenders, please see our policy statement.
