Contract type: Fixed term for 6 - 9 months

This position is available as a secondment opportunity for 6 to 9 months. If you are a permanent LBC employee, you must have written approval (an email will suffice) from your manager prior to applying and a copy will need to be submitted with your application. Are you passionate about making a difference through powerful, strategic communications? Join Luton Council as a Communications Officer and help us deliver campaigns that change perceptions, attitudes and behaviours for the benefit of our residents and communities.

As part of our dynamic Communications and Marketing team, you’ll work in a small, focused group supporting the People portfolio. This critical role covers internal and external communications across education, children’s services, adult social care, and health and wellbeing.

You’ll design, manage and evaluate communications campaigns that really matter, ensuring they are supported by data and research and deliver meaningful outcomes for both the council and the people we serve.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and deliver creative, evidence-based communications and marketing campaigns for the People portfolio.
  • Engage and influence key stakeholders, senior leaders, and partners to gain support for new initiatives.
  • Present complex and sensitive information in a clear and accessible way for a range of audiences.
  • Use research and data to inform innovative communications strategies and measure impact.
  • Manage competing priorities and high-pressure situations to meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Embed equality and diversity principles in all communication activity and working practices.

About you

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills with experience of securing buy-in for change.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex, multi-channel campaigns that achieve measurable results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex topics understandable.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data and inform future campaigns.
  • Experience of managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A solid understanding of equality issues and the ability to integrate these into campaigns and strategies.
