Job Title: Community Liaison Officer
Salary: £39,027 – £44,463 per annum (pro rata if part-time)
Grade: E
Contract Type: Fixed Term – 2 years
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

The Community Liaison Officer is part of the Council’s Community Development Team, which sits within the Communications and Engagement Service and works to support residents, strengthen local networks and enable community‑led change. The team focuses on working directly with communities to understand local priorities, reduce barriers and help residents play an active role in shaping their neighbourhoods.

Working across the council and in partnership with residents, elected members, and the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector, the Community Liaison Officer plays a key role in connecting communities with the right information, services and support. The role supports the delivery of neighbourhood‑based and community‑led initiatives by helping residents navigate council processes, encouraging collaboration, and supporting groups to turn local ideas into practical action.

Through active engagement, partnership working and a strong focus on inclusion and equality, the Community Liaison Officer helps build community confidence and resilience, strengthen relationships across sectors, and ensure local voices influence decisions and improvements across Thurrock.

About the Role

As a Community Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Working directly with residents, community groups and partners to support community‑led initiatives and neighbourhood‑based improvements.
  • Acting as a key link between communities and council services, helping residents access information, navigate processes and remove barriers to action.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with voluntary, community and faith sector organisations, councillors and internal teams.
  • Supporting and coordinating engagement activity, community meetings and events, including some out‑of‑hours work where required.
  • Helping identify local priorities, opportunities and challenges, and working collaboratively to develop practical, locally driven solutions.
  • Contributing to reporting, briefings and updates that capture community insight and evidence impact.

This role offers a chance to make a real difference by working alongside communities to turn ambition into action, remove barriers, and support local initiatives that improve wellbeing, resilience and pride in place.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of working directly with residents and community groups to support community‑led initiatives or neighbourhood‑based improvements.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly and confidently and build positive relationships with residents, community organisations and partners.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities, work flexibly, and follow activity through from initial engagement to outcomes.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including voluntary, community and faith organisations and internal council teams.
  • A strong commitment to inclusive engagement and supporting under‑represented communities to participate and have their voices heard.
