Dartford Borough Council have over 4000 social homes throughout the local area. With an established track record for maintaining quality homes, delivering new affordable housing and investing in local communities this is an exciting opportunity to join the Council. Complementing our existing service, this role has been created to provide a dedicated resource to manage fire safety within the organisation.

We are seeking an experienced Housing Compliance Surveyor – Fire Safety to join our compliance team. This is a vital role ensuring that Dartford Borough Council’s housing stock meets all fire safety regulations and standards, keeping our residents safe and our properties compliant. The position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative environment, develop your skills and contribute to achieving our service goals. As a landlord we currently have responsibility for buildings up to 11m in height, with no dwellings above this height. You will be responsible for carrying out fire safety inspections, type 1 and type 2 fire risk assessments to domestic blocks, and surveys, as well as supporting the delivery of remedial works and monitoring contractor performance. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fire safety inspections and risk assessments across housing properties.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommendations following surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant fire safety legislation and guidance.
  • Maintain accurate records and update compliance systems.
  • Advise colleagues and contractors on fire safety requirements and best practice.
  • Monitor and oversee remedial works to ensure timely and compliant delivery.
  • Support audits and provide evidence for regulatory compliance.

About You

  • Experience in fire safety surveying or compliance within housing or a similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Relevant fire safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Safety, Fire Risk Assessment certification) is essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance management systems.
  • Must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work

Salary range

  • £45,065 - £47,673 per year
