Job description

Working as part of the Connected and Automated Mobility Services (CAMS) team the product specialist role will support CAM services development.

The DVSA product will cover Driver CAM services.

As CAMS product specialist you will support the development, integration and implementation of various CAMS products into DVSA Driver services.

The post holder will need to develop policies by understanding the legislation that will govern the CAMS product workstream.

Our rapidly evolving technical environment this role will require a proactive and flexible approach to personal development to keep up to date with this changing technology, it’s use cases & the GB governments objectives.

The role will closely interact with DfT (Department for Transport), CCAV (Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and DVSA teams including Policy, Operations, Enforcement, & Digital.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Working with the Workstream Product Manager and other product managers, supporting the development and delivery of the CAMS product (s) to meet the agreed objectives.
  • Working with the product manager to design and develop product(s) from inception of legislation through to implementation and if necessary, closure. This includes responses to technical progress, legislative changes and customer-led demand to improve the overall effectiveness of the product(s) and service provision.
  • Providing expert technical product/policy advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders and customers/end users on any component of the product lifecycle.
  • Building good relationships with all team members and communicating politely and promptly to internal and external customers.
  • Liaise with relevant departments to ensure continuous improvement and that the requirements of the CAMS objectives are met.

Person specification

Essential qualifications/licenses:

  1. Must hold a DVSA Warrant card to test cars, trucks or buses.

You will be required to provide evidence that you hold any essential qualifications/license at some point during the recruitment process. If you cannot provide evidence, your application will be withdrawn.

Required experience:

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Detailed and in-depth knowledge of the DVSA products and the capabilities required for Driver services. This will include the policies and processes related to the service and the environment in which they operate.
  • Experience of interpretation of legislation and policy, using this information to develop and implement service products.
  • DVSA Driving Examiner experience conducting tests for cars, buses, or trucks, along with associated driver training across these vehicle categories.
  • Learns new information fast and can think on their feet.
  • Has an interest in vehicle technology and is comfortable when things change quickly.
  • Copes well under pressure and can organise their own work and manage their time well.
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems.

Additional Information

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Regular travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.

This role can be based at any UK DVSA Office location, there is the option to be based at a DVSA Multi Purpose Test Centre subject to capacity at the location. Your presence at one of the locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. This role is suitable for hybrid working, and therefore a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements. Hybrid working is a non-contractual arrangement where employees have the flexibility to work remotely combined with a minimum of 60% of their working time a month at either their principal workplace or, when required for business reasons, to carry out separate duties at alternative working locations or DVSA sites. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
