You will join the External Communications team who are responsible for all external-facing communication and media activity at DVLA. As a Content Designer, you will create content that meets customer needs in a clear, simple, and easy to understand manner. You will also develop, maintain and improve customer journeys, following current content publishing guidelines and Government Digital Service (GDS) publishing guidelines, where appropriate.

Job description

As the subject matter expert on content creation, you’ll be skilled at taking complex information and making it accessible to a public audience. This will include creating engaging content for a diverse range of channels, such as GOV.UK, social media, letters, forms and other literature.

You will also support communications campaigns by drafting and publishing proactive content, including social media posts, blogs, and email alerts.

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Create and publish engaging, accurate content across a range of digital and offline channels, ensuring it meets business objectives, serves the needs of the target audience, and delivers a positive user experience.
  • Continuously produce and evaluate data to improve content. Understand user needs by analysing user research, feedback and other data to develop recommendations for improvements.
  • Be able to recommend the most appropriate channels to satisfy user and business needs (based on all available insight).
  • Collaborate with colleagues within DVLA and the wider content community to design, agree and publish high quality content and services. This includes agreeing an evidence base for change, applying GDS publishing standards and working with the GDS content team to update GOV.UK.
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the shared inbox to ensure you and the team are meeting all SLAs.
  • Support DVLA’s communications campaigns by writing and publishing proactive posts on DVLA’s social media channels, blogs, and email alerts.

Additional Information:

We welcome applications from candidates who can speak Welsh and English. Welsh language skills could be useful in this role, but it is not an assessment criterion, so it won’t put you at any disadvantage during recruitment if you aren’t a Welsh speaker. Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements:

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 35 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

Pre-employment Checking
