You will also be part of the wider content community. *You will work with mostly other teams in the department, including policy teams who have contacted the dedicated GOV.UK inbox with a request. *You’ll triage inbox requests, assess the level of work needed, and make sure that resources are allocated across the team appropriately. You’ll be involved in the end-to-end publishing process, taking requests from the draft stage to an accessible, content-designed final version.
You will be experienced in writing content in line with GOV.UK style guidelines, turning jargon-heavy drafts into clear and simple pages. Some requests may require out-of-hours working; however, as a team we do our utmost to complete all requests during working hours where possible.
Job description
As a Content Editor, you'll:
- Manage the team’s shared GOV.UK inbox (prior experience of managing a GOV.UK inbox is required)
- Be responsible for triaging requests and delegating tasks to more junior colleagues
- Manage the relationship with GDS and act as first point of contact for content projects
- Work quickly and effectively to create plain English content for GOV.UK in line with GDS best practice and standards
- Apply and advocate for user-centred design principles, especially to stakeholders unfamiliar with content design
- Work closely with subject matter experts such as policy, data protection, legal, data analysis and various stakeholders to make sure content is accurate and meets user needs
- Use Whitehall to publish content on GOV.UK
- Take an active role in attending and shaping team ceremonies (stand ups, retros, etc.), crit sessions and wider UCD community of practice meetings
- Ensure compliance with accessibility regulations, including best practice and Web Content Accessibility - Guidelines (WCAG)
Person specification
As a Content Editor, you'll have:
- Experience with user-centred design principles and content accessibility
- Experience in managing and leading a GOV.UK inbox and using Whitehall publisher
- Experience of being able to work quickly in a fast-paced, collaborative team, while also making use of quieter periods to use your initiative in finding other tasks
- Familiarity with working independently to manage your workload and prioritise tasks effectively
- Experience in working with stakeholders to communicate what you can and cannot deliver, and being comfortable saying no under pressure
- Technical Skills in Content design - Accessibility and inclusion - Collaboration - Communication, persuasion and advocating
