This is an exciting opportunity for a Contracts Manager to join our wider Divisional Support Team in the Science Solutions and Business Management Group for a fixed period covering maternity leave. You will be based in HSE’s Science Engineering and Analysis Division in Buxton, Derbyshire - a world leading provider of health and safety solutions to industry and government.
Our work spans across a wide and varied range of sectors including fire, explosion, process safety and engineering; occupational and environmental health; risk assessment; work environment; and specialist photographic and analytical services.
The scope of our important work requires a dedicated individual to provide support to HSE’s commercial function on contractual matters related to our activities as a supplier of consultancy and testing to industry. The objective of this support is to help HSE understand and manage its exposure to risk, through appropriate contractual mitigation. Contractual arrangements to be managed include sales contracts and customer POs, service level and framework agreements, NDAs and other confidentiality agreements, co-operation/collaboration agreements, memoranda of understanding, etc.
This is an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively across HSE with both internal and external stakeholders (both government and industry) and to provide essential contractual advice to support HSE’s essential commercial activities.

Due to the nature of the work involved this role is only suitable for full time working.
Job description
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and assurance to staff across HSE on contractual issues
- Negotiate contractual Terms & Conditions with customers operating within the private sector, public sector, UK Government and occasionally International Governments
- Identify and provide guidance on the most appropriate contractual model for a variety of commercial sales opportunities
- Advise on broader procedures governing commercial sales arrangements within HSE
- Provide accurate information to colleagues delivering HSE’s commercial targets including Head of Business Development, External Revenue Centre Leads, Business Development Managers and Project Managers
- Liaise with colleagues to coordinate general contract administration activities (proof reading, drafting, reviewing, record keeping, status tracking, filing, etc.)

Essential Skills & Criteria:
We are looking for an experienced Contracts Manager and negotiator who can be an integral part of the team from Day 1. You must be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of commercial supplier contracts and contract management activities including the ability to review and draft content such as contractual terms and conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively and have a high standard of customer service skills, alongside the ability to negotiate when challenged
- The ability to work at pace, both independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail
- The ability to interact productively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- The ability to balance and prioritise competing demands with minimal supervision

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues.
