    Starting salary £38,350pa pro rata with progression to £41,254pa pro rata through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance).

    22.5 hours per week between Monday to Friday to be agreed on appointment (with requirement for some occasional weekend or evening working)

    Fixed term up to 12 months (maternity cover)

    Welwyn Hatfield Museum Service exists to record, collect, conserve, exhibit and interpret the archaeology and history of the Welwyn Hatfield borough for the benefit of the public.To these ends, the Museum Service develops and grows its collection, which reflect the lives of people of all lived experiences, resident or working in the borough both past and present. Our collections consist mainly of archaeology and local social history including photographs, artworks and archival material.

    The Museum Services has two sites; Mill Green Museum (an 18th Century restored watermill) and Welwyn Roman Baths (a 3rd Century ancient scheduled monument) and we welcome visitors to both.

    We wish to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated curator with proven collections management skills to take the lead in developing our collection and assist with the programming of public engagement.Working closely with our dedicated team,you will be responsible for the promotion, conservation and interpretation of our collections at both sites, ensuring a high standard of collections care and ensuring the adherence to policy, and documentation procedures.

    The role will act as a point of expertise and advice at many levels and act as the liaison between the museum service and local and regional museum professional networks and associations.

    You will work in a small, friendly team where supporting colleagues with service delivery is a fundamental requirement.Role-modelling excellent customer service and advocacy is expected when welcoming visitors, delivering talks and running event activities.

    You will act as deputy to the Museum Manager who you will work closely with on exhibitions, projects and forward planning.You will also directly manage a team of dedicated collections management volunteers as well as volunteer guides for both Mill Green Museum and Welwyn Roman Baths, providing training to deliver excellent experiences for our visitors.

    The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.

    A driving licence valid in the UK and use of a motor vehicle is required.

    This post is subject to enhanced DBS check.
