Job description

Role Purpose and Overview

Veterans Services (VS), part of the Defence Business Services Armed Forces and Veterans Team, delivers essential welfare support to the Armed Forces community across the UK. Through national Triage and a widely dispersed network of Case Managers, VS works in partnership with the Single Services, local authorities, service charities, voluntary organisations, and government departments to provide holistic support to service leavers, veterans, and their families.

Our services include transition support in line with the MOD’s Holistic Transition Policy (JSP 100), advice for bereaved families, guidance on Armed Forces compensation and pensions, and information on how to access welfare, healthcare, accommodation, employment, and financial support. With main operational hubs in Kidderminster, Norcross, Centurion, Belfast, and Glasgow, in addition to Field Team locations across the UK, we are now recruiting two Training Coordinators to enhance and support service delivery across the country.

This is an exciting time to join us, working alongside VALOUR partners to develop and implement improved systems and services for veterans and the wider Armed Forces community. The Veterans Services Training Coordinators will be key to maintaining and enhancing VS service quality as part of this programme.

Training Coordinator – Key Responsibilities

As a Veteran Services Training Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring our workforce is skilled, confident, and fully supported to deliver high‑quality services to the Armed Forces community. Your responsibilities will include:

Training Design, Coordination & Delivery

  • Develop, source, and coordinate training materials that meet the needs of VS staff.
  • Organise and deliver workshops, learning sessions, and e‑learning opportunities.
  • Work with MOD, DBS and external partners to secure relevant training resources.
  • Ensure all training is inclusive, accessible, and aligned with Civil Service-Learning standards.
  • Support onboarding and induction programmes to ensure new colleagues receive a high‑quality introduction to VS.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training through feedback and performance measures.
  • Identify areas for service improvement and escalate quality issues where needed.
  • Support audits, reviews, and compliance activity.
  • Help embed a culture of continuous improvement across Veterans Services.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Work closely with VS managers, HR, policy teams, and senior leaders to align training with strategic priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with external partners, including third‑sector organisations and training providers.
  • Represent Veterans Services in training forums, working groups and collaborative meetings.
  • Champion learning and professional development across the organisation.

Learning Records & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of all training activity using MYHR.
  • Produce regular updates and insight reports on training delivery, participation, and impact.
  • Support colleagues and managers to ensure compliance with mandatory learning requirements.
  • Provide clear, data‑driven updates to support workforce planning and decision‑making.

Training will be provided, and the postholder is expected to maintain professional development in line with Civil Service requirements and role-specific learning needs.

Travel & Working Environment

This is a national role requiring occasional travel across the UK to support dispersed teams training requirements, meet stakeholders, and represent Veterans Services at events and military or government locations.

  • Travel may include overnight stays.
  • A full UK Driving Licence is essential.
  • The role operates in a hybrid environment, balancing remote working with regular in‑person engagement.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to identify training requirements and develop effective learning and development solutions.
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with confident interpersonal skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, including building and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Experience in quality assurance or service improvement, with an eye for identifying gaps and opportunities.
  • Empathy, compassion and a commitment to supporting and developing others.
  • Strong IT proficiency, including MS Office, collaboration platforms (e.g., MS Teams), and case management systems, with a willingness to learn new tools.
  • A full UK driving licence and/or willingness to undertake regular travel across the UK.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in welfare case management, with an understanding of the needs of Service leavers and veterans.
  • Experience working within MOD or wider public sector environments.
  • Understanding of devolved government structures and regional variations in service delivery.
  • Knowledge of the Armed Forces community, including Resettlement and Transition processes.

Allowances

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
