We are looking for a motivated and committed professional to join our friendly and highly regarded Electoral Services team as Deputy Electoral Services Manager. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role at the heart of local democracy, supporting the delivery of fair, transparent and well-run elections and maintaining the integrity of the electoral register. You will be part of a supportive, collaborative team that takes pride in accuracy, professionalism and continuous improvement, working closely with colleagues across the Council and with external partners to deliver an essential public service.

This pivotal role will include supporting the Electoral Services Manager in resolving complex registration and absent voting cases, ensure compliance with legislation, data protection and Electoral Commission guidance, contribute to service improvement and, when required, deputise for the Electoral Services Manager and Electoral Registration Officer to ensure continuity of statutory functions.

We are seeking an experienced professional with at least two years’ experience in Electoral Services, including working independently across a broad range of electoral duties. You will hold the AEA Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent) and have in-depth knowledge of electoral law, electoral registration processes, GDPR and relevant guidance, alongside experience of planning and delivering election projects. Just as importantly, you will be highly organised, outcome-focused and confident in exercising professional judgement, with strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with councillors, colleagues and stakeholders. We welcome applications from candidates who are committed to high standards, inclusive engagement and continuous learning, and who can demonstrate resilience and flexibility during busy election periods.

The post is offered on a 24 month fixed term contract (36 hours per week).

Benefits include:

  • 27 – 32 days annual leave (depending on length of Local Gvt Service) - plus all bank holidays
  • Local government pension scheme
  • Flexi-Leave - accrue extra hours & exchange for up to 2 days leave per month
  • Free gym membership
  • Cycle schemes (Cycle to Work Scheme and free Beryl Bike rides for staff)
  • Free wellbeing benefits (such as lunchtime yoga, flu jabs, health MOT)
  • Employee Assistance Programme

The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to three days per week from home.

Closing date: Monday 30 March, 10am
