    About Us:

Bexley is a vibrant and diverse outer London Borough nestled in the Thames Gateway between London and Kent which means it combines the perfect blend of city vibe and the tranquillity of Kent. It's got award-winning parks, open spaces, and heritage sites. The borough has excellent transport connections, including the Elizabeth Line and proximity to the M25. Bexley offers fantastic amenities such as libraries, leisure centres, and shopping areas. Our borough is also home to numerous primary and secondary schools, as well as further education institutions.

    About the role

Are you ready to play a key role in shaping and safeguarding the future of our highways and public spaces? We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Development Engineer to join our dynamic Transport & Development team.

You’ll be responsible for inspecting and monitoring highway and public realm works to ensure they meet our high standards—both technically and in terms of public safety. You'll act as the vital link ensuring that developer-funded work is delivered to specification, compliant with agreements, and integrated safely with existing infrastructure.

With a varied workload covering many sites across the borough you’ll be collaborating with developers, contractors, legal services, and other stakeholders, inspecting sites, verifying legal and technical compliance helping to bring high-quality, sustainable urban infrastructure to life.

    Candidate Profile

You’re someone who thrives in a fast-paced, site-focused environment and takes pride in precision, safety, and getting the details right. Whether you're walking a new development site, resolving an on-the-ground technical issue, or helping legal teams secure essential agreements, you approach each task with confidence and a solutions-driven mindset.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

    • A HND (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
    • Solid technical experience in highways engineering and construction
    • Knowledge of highway law, materials, and public realm standards
    • Sharp numerical and measurement skills for on-site data collection and analysis
    • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
    • Competency with ICT systems and technical tools, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD

If you're looking to have a real impact on the spaces that people use every day—and to be part of a team that values collaboration, quality, and community—this is your next step.
