Job summary

The Role
As the Senior Estate Surveyor for Support to Operations, this role is quite literally on the front line of supporting our armed forces to deploy by managing all aspects of the hired real-estate process for our Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) customer in locations where UK service personnel are deployed on an operational basis.
This requires an agile mindset to turn a requirement for residential or technical accommodation into a reality in a diverse range of locations from Eastern Europe to Africa and the Broader Middle East. Holding Power of Attorney for the Secretary of State for Defence you will be empowered to administer and execute lease contracts in line with suitably established and funded delivery requirements. This will entail working closely with, and sometimes via military staff in location providing subject expertise guidance and advice on leasing practices ensuring optimum outcomes for the department, and/or developing rapid and productive relationships with local service providers. Where necessary you can expect to undertake site inspections and delivery on the ground via short deployments, with all training and equipment provided in advance and logistical and transport support from MoD personnel on the ground.
The job holder may also be called on to deliver Special Projects and support on behalf of the wider DIO Estates Specialist Teams in other locations across the overseas Accommodation and Remote Overseas and Training Estates which include portfolios in Kenya and Nepal and reach as far away as the Falkland Islands.
This is a fast paced and unique environment which would suit a dynamic qualified chartered surveyor with an established general practice real-estate background and an expeditionary mindset.

Job description
Main Responsibilities
All Senior Surveyor roles within Estates oversee and manage a wide range of programmes and services alongside the provision of subject matter expert advice and communications with all key stakeholders.
The work is extremely varied and wide ranging, but key activities for each of the roles will include:
- Working with Headquarters infrastructure teams to establish and refine requirements.
- Advice on and devise delivery solutions to a range of accommodation requirements in diverse overseas locations.
- Undertake procurement activity ensuring adherence to best practice, driving both value and optimum capability for the military customer.
- Deploying to operational areas where relevant to secure and enhance your delivery programme.
- Negotiating terms which seek to mitigate risks and executing lease contracts under Power of Attorney for the Secretary of State for Defence (within defined levels of professional delegated authority).
- Setting up, administering and monitoring lease terms and events throughout their lifecycle ensuring data integrity and adherence to lease terms.
- Working with various stakeholders including J8 (Finance), J4 (Infrastructure) and J3 (Ops Safety) to ensure compliance and assurance standards are met.
- Undertake special projects in support of the wider DIO Estates Specialist Teams (Overseas Accommodation or Remote Overseas & Training Estate) where necessary to deliver one-off requirements or provide short-term resource or enhanced capability where necessary.

Location
The role is based within the Wyton office and as such to meet the business requirements of the role the successful candidate will need to be based or attend the Wyton location on a regular basis effectively carry out the responsibilities of the role and for face-to-face meetings and collaboration.
Other DIO locations may be considered whilst ensuring the location of the successful candidate can still meet the business and travel requirements of the role.
If travelling outside your base location for duty reasons, you will have access to flights, hire cars, rail tickets and overnight accommodation. You can also claim 45 pence per mile should you choose to use your own vehicle for business travel.
Travel may be required to carry out site visits where you may go on MOD Establishments, residential estates, building sites, agricultural land, training areas and firing ranges etc.

Essential Experience
Relevant, suitable experience and knowledge at an appropriate level in General Estate Management of a wide and varied portfolio, including:
- Landlord and Tenant
- Property Valuation
- Estate utilisation and rationalisation
- Property Transactions
- Estate Liaison with Senior Government or Commercial Departments/Organisations
- Property data and information management
- Close engagement with multi-disciplinary teams in geographically dispersed locations
Desirable Experience
- Working in a Defence environment
- Working in overseas environment
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Licences
Essential Licences: A full driving licence - Post holders will be required to travel to the sites covered by the post on a regular basis and some sites are difficult to access via public transport.Qualifications

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement.
