- Assisting with navigating the environment and places in the community, ie locating the toilets.
- Assisting the individual with accessing activities and spending time out in the community.
- Attending/transporting the individual to social activities.
- Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
- Be motivated, proactive and able to work on their own initiative.
- Be patient, caring and understanding.
- Have good communication skills (clear and effective communication).
- Be able to build a positive relationship with the individual to both encourage and support them.
- Have previous experience supporting an individual with additional needs.
- Be flexible to accommodate the hours of work where necessary.
- Must have use of own car, to transport individual to social activities
Hours of work
6 hours per week during term time and 12 hours per week during the school holidays flexible arrangements with family.
Days/Times
Saturday or Sunday and during the school holidays.
About the recipient
The individual is female 14 years old and resides in Cottingham. They require a dedicated and suitable person to support them due to having a diagnosis of Juvenile Batten Disease, a rare, progressive, and life-limiting neurological condition. As a result, she has experienced complete vision loss and is beginning to show signs of speech and language regression. She is also at risk of seizures.
She is a bright and friendly young person. She enjoys listening to audiobooks - particularly Harry Potter, playing with her toys and games console.
Socially, she benefits from being part of inclusive groups such as Cubs and a disability football team, where she feels accepted and supported.
She would like support to access groups and activities in the community as when she is well she likes to lead a fun filled and active lifestyle.
She requires continuous supervision and support to ensure her safety, particularly in unfamiliar or overstimulating environments, where she can experience overwhelm and needing reassurance and calming support to help her to feel safe in her environment.
About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Request of a female worker under GOR, due to requirement of locating and navigating the environments in the community ie. Toilets and in instance any personal care would be required.
