If so, we would like to invite you to apply for the role of Director of Capital Projects & Sustainability at Liverpool city council.

    As the Director of Capital Projects & Sustainability, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our city. This is a new and exciting role responsible for leading the council’s capital buildings programme and driving our ambitious sustainability and net zero agendas. Your leadership will ensure that all high-profile construction and specialist capital projects are delivered within agreed budgets and timescales, while also championing sustainability initiatives.

    The role of Director of Capital Projects & Sustainability key stand outs would be:

    • To lead an extensive programme within the capital and sustainability teams to achieve the council’s objectives and support organisation-wide culture change
    • Lead on the development of major capital building projects, including schools capital, council buildings including heritage assets, heat network programme, managing a team of multi-disciplinary specialists
    • Develop and implement policies and action plans aligned with local, regional, and national climate goals and engage with internal and external stakeholders
    • Drive the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient council and city, ensuring the effective delivery of our energy and sustainability programmes
    • Represent the council’s interests in negotiations with stakeholders, investors, and government on net zero and climate-associated initiatives

    We are looking for a candidate with:

    • Substantial senior management experience in a major, complex organisation relevant to supervising high-profile local authority projects and programmes
    • Extensive knowledge of capital project delivery, budget management energy management, sustainability, and carbon reduction
    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams and influence both internally and externally
    • A demonstrable track record of driving tangible change and improvement

    This is a hybrid role based at the Cunard Building in Liverpool 2/3 days a week, dependant on business needs.
