For Talos:

At Slough Children First, our mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every child and young person in Slough is Happy, Safe & Loved, Thriving. We are looking for an experienced and visionary Director of Operations to lead and inspire our frontline social work services, driving excellence and improving outcomes for children and families.

About the Role

As Director of Operations, you will provide strategic leadership and effective management of our social care services. You will play a pivotal role in safeguarding children, promoting their welfare, and ensuring that our services are responsive, high-quality, and aligned with both local and national priorities.

This is a unique opportunity to join a wholly owned company commissioned by Slough Borough Council to deliver Children’s Social Care. While your primary focus will be on service delivery, you will also operate within a company framework, supported with any development you need in this area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage frontline social work services to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Ensure efficient operation of services responding to concerns about vulnerable children.
  • Drive continuous improvement through audits, reviews, and implementation of inspection recommendations.
  • Develop strong partnerships with external agencies and stakeholders, representing Slough Children First at strategic forums.
  • Oversee budgets, ensuring value for money and effective resource allocation.
  • Champion innovation and lead major change initiatives to improve outcomes for children.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on safeguarding and social care matters.

About You

We are seeking a dynamic leader with:

  • Significant experience in children’s social care and safeguarding.
  • A proven track record of managing complex services and delivering positive outcomes.
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to lead change.
  • Excellent partnership-building skills and the confidence to represent the organisation at senior levels.
  • Knowledge of statutory frameworks and risk management principles.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a passionate team committed to making a difference.
  • Lead services that directly impact the lives of children and families.
  • Enjoy a supportive environment with opportunities for professional development.

This is more than a leadership role; it’s a chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families by building strong relationships with partners, stakeholders and the wider community.

We work on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days per week based in the office.

If you’re looking for a new challenge and want to be part of an exciting journey to turn children’s services around in Slough, then come and join us. In return, we can offer you:

  • Training and development opportunities
  • Agile working supported by technology
  • Flexible working policies
  • Friendly working environment and great colleagues.

Slough is one of the most diverse places in the country outside of London and a great place to live or work. In fact, it's the best place to live or work according to a survey by Glassdoor. Pleasant environments, above average salaries and a lower cost of living, mean an increased quality of life for employees. We're also one of the most accessible places to be, nestled on the corner of the M25, M4 and M40, and less than 20 minutes by train to Central London.
