About the role:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Domestic Abuse Outreach Worker to provide trauma informed support to individuals who have experienced domestic abuse.

As part of the role you'll conduct risk assessments, develop safety plans, and offer emotional support and practical guidance to help clients navigate complex situations and access necessary resources like housing, legal, financial support or other identified services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse, they will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to trauma-informed practice. You'll be a key part of a supportive team, working collaboratively to empower survivors and foster safer communities.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • One to one sessions: Plan, deliver, and facilitate structured support sessions for individuals affected by domestic abuse, creating a safe and supportive environment. Providing emotional and practical support to all clients.
  • Assessment and Safety Planning: Conducting thorough assessments of risk and need to individuals and their children and co-creating comprehensive safety plans tailored to their specific circumstances. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the family is managed effectively.
  • Advocacy, Referrals and Signposting: Identifying client needs and making appropriate referrals to other specialist agencies and services within the community. Advocating for clients where required and ensuring they have access to housing, legal aid, mental health service and other essential support.
  • Wellbeing/Therapeutic Interventions: Offering 1:1 therapeutic support, implementing evidence-based techniques to help survivors process trauma, build resilience, and develop coping mechanisms.
  • Crisis Intervention: Responding to crisis situations, de-escalating conflict, and ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
  • Psychoeducation: Educating clients about domestic abuse, its impact, and available support options.
  • Emotional Support: Providing a non-judgmental and supportive space for clients to express their feelings and experiences.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other professionals, including police, social services, health providers, and legal representatives, to ensure a coordinated approach to client care.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and confidential client records, documenting interventions, progress, and outcomes in line with organisational policies and professional standards.
  • Community Engagement: Build relationships with community organisations and stakeholders to promote the service and recruit participants.
  • Networking: Attend relevant meetings and events to represent the organisation and share best practices.
  • Training and Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices in domestic abuse support, wellbeing, and co-production (most training required is ran Tuesday – Thursday)

About you:

You will be a dynamic self-starter playing a key role in the development and growth of the therapeutic aligned outreach service. You will be empathetic and ensure that the voice of the survivor is heard and that it feeds into the strategic direction of the organisation to promote a client led vision. You will have experience in facilitating one to one or group work, ideally with individuals affected by domestic abuse or other trauma. Demonstrate an understanding of domestic abuse dynamics, trauma-informed practice, and wellbeing principles.

The ideal candidates will always work to a high standard of empathy, patience, and understanding, with a knowledge of safeguarding procedures and practices.
