About the team

Make a real difference to road safety in Hertfordshire

We’re looking for a dynamic, safety‑focused Driver Training Assessor to join Hertfordshire County Council’s Driver Training Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about improving road safety and supporting others to become safer, more confident drivers.

As part of our mission to reduce collisions, injuries and fatalities on Hertfordshire’s roads, you’ll play a key role in delivering high‑quality driver assessments and specialist training through the Driving Assessment Scheme. You’ll work with a wide range of people — from HCC staff and schools to community transport providers, volunteers, and other organisations that support local residents.

About the role

You will be responsible for delivering professional driver assessments and tailored training, ensuring staff and community partners are able to drive safely and competently as part of their roles.

No two days are the same. You may be conducting driving assessments one morning, delivering specialist equipment training in the afternoon, and advising service managers or volunteers on best practice the next day.

You’ll also support the development and delivery of important initiatives such as:

  • D1 driver training
  • Winter driving and seasonal safety courses
  • Work Related Road Safety programmes

This is a growing and evolving service, and you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to new workstreams and shape future delivery. Full training relevant to the role will be provided where required.

Essential

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Solid knowledge of road safety and the Highway Code
  • A full unrestricted D1 licence held for at least 3 years (not D101 grandfather rights)
  • A Driving Assessor qualification (minimum Level 2)
  • An ADI licence
  • RoSPA Silver (minimum)

Desirable

  • PTTLS Level 3 (or willingness to work towards it)

If you're enthusiastic about delivering high‑quality driver assessments and supporting others to drive safely, we would love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from candidates who currently reside in the UK with established proof of right to work documentation. We are not able to offer sponsorship at this time for this role.
