    Job introduction

    We are seeking a passionate and motivated two Early years Practitioners, with a minimum level 2 qualification and experience working in a childcare setting, to join our hard working team.


    The Early Years practitioners is 1 x 18.5 hours per week and 1 x 37 hours per week in our Pre-school (3 to 5 years old) room.


    We would welcome any candidate to visit our setting to meet our staff team, see our learning spaces and hear about our ethos.

    About the role

    orn Nursery is one of Brighton and Hove City Council Children’s Centre Nurseries. We operate five nurseries across the City and provide a high quality service for children aged from 3 months to 5 years. We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

    Acorn Nursery is located in Portslade (Mile Oak) . We have been purpose built to meet the needs of young children and their families. The nursery is an open plan design, it has three playrooms and the children are split into groups supporting their age and developmental stage.

    The nursery provides children with lots of space to play and learn, use their imaginations and be creative. We have a large garden space where children can climb a climbing frame, enjoy our new sandpit, plant vegetables, enjoy our mud kitchen, ride bikes and explore nature. We have a play based approach to learning in a fun, happy and calm atmosphere.

We have a long standing team of staff who feel passionate about supporting children’s appetite to gain new experiences and grow.     At Acorn Nursery, as part of Brighton and Hove City Council, we provide a full induction and training programme.


    This job is for a Deputy Room leader in our Rainbow room (3-5 year olds).This role will be supporting Room leader to ensure consistent and engaging running of the pre school room.

    We have a play-based approach to learning in a fun, happy and calm atmosphere.

    Applicants must have:

    • a minimum Level 2 qualification in Early years and childcare
    • experience of working with young children in an early year’s environment
    • a fun positive attitude to work
    • confident in delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
    • passion to learn and develop
    • experience of meeting the individual needs of young children and their families
    • demonstrate a passion and commitment for providing high quality care and learning opportunities
    • excellent communication skills.
    • keen to support less experienced colleagues practice

    The role involves:

    • leading the room ensuring all element of the daily room take place, particularly in the absence or Room Leader
    • role modelling to colleagues and offering guidance to support their professional development
    • being a key person for a group of children
    • building relationships
    • being an inspiration to the children
    • supporting attachment building
    • ensuring the children feel safe
    • carrying out observations
    • assessing children
    • supporting growth and development.

    We will provide:

    • Salary above market average starting at £27,254 for a full-time post of 37 hours a week, equivalent to £13.69 per hour.
    • 25 days paid holiday every year plus bank holidays, rising to 28 days holiday after five years service.

    Additional information

    Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
