Job summary

Are you looking for a new challenge this year, if so, we have an exciting opportunity in the Health and Safety Team at RAF Boulmer as the Establishment Fire Focal Point (EFFP).

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with confident communication and problem-solving skills who has the ability to remain highly disciplined and organised. This would be ideal for an enthusiastic individual who would thrive on the responsibility and opportunity to deliver high quality support to the UK's Air Defence Network. This role will challenge your influencing and communication skills, it is also immensely rewarding. You will be responsible for fire safety assurance at RAF Boulmer, as well as the geographically dispersed radar and communications sites across the UK. The key criteria to success are excellent people skills, strong organisation and the desire to drive a 'can do safely' culture.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The EFFP is responsible for ensuring site compliance, on behalf of the Head of Establishment, with fire legislation, policy and guidance by achievement of the following key tasks, which will include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Head of Establishment with the implementation and ongoing management and maintenance of the Unit Fire Safety Management System (FSMS).
  • Manage and maintain unit fire policies, including the Fire Safety Management System (FSMS), Fire Safety Management Plan and Unit Fire Orders.
  • Manage and advise on fire risks, through the existing Fire Risk Assessment (FRA), ensuring all FRA action plans are monitored until actions are completed and all significant risks are elevated to the relevant parties.
  • Management of Unit training programmes and exercises.
  • Coordinate a programme of risk based 1st part assurance (1PA) and conduct assurance of fire safety measures in Unit buildings, ensuring 1PA findings are dealt with appropriately.
  • Act as the point of contact in preparation for 2nd and 3rd Party Audits as required.
  • Communications both with internal and external agencies/stakeholders
  • Assist with emergency planning for fire emergencies and exercises, liaise with Local Authority Fire Rescue Services, arrange training and manage fire packs held at main entry points.

Person specification

Essential:

  • Strong organisational and IT skills, competent user of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Flexible and dedicated.

Desirable:

  • Fire safety qualifications are desirable but the right experience and confidence in a safety environment would also be considered. In this case Fire Safety Level 3 qualification would be expected to be achieved within 6 months of taking up the post.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of office attendance.
