This position is available as a secondment opportunity until 31/9/27. TheFairness Taskforce Coordinator will play a pivotal role in supporting Luton Council’s commitment to fairness, equality, and community engagement. This is a varied and high-profile role, providing complex administrative and strategic support to the Fairness Taskforce and associated programmes.

You will take ownership of a range of key responsibilities, including coordinating projects, compiling research and evidence to inform strategic decision-making, and producing confidential and complex reports. You will manage the tracking, recording, and monitoring of correspondence and citizen engagement across multiple channels, ensuring that the voices of Luton’s communities are effectively captured and represented.

Acting as secretariat to the Fairness Taskforce, you will organise meetings, design and deliver events, and ensure that all documentation, minutes, and follow-up actions are of the highest standard. You will provide guidance and quality assurance to team members to maintain a consistently excellent level of administrative support.

The role also requires strong financial acumen, as you will manage a range of financial functions, including processing high-value orders, reconciling budgets and invoices, monitoring staffing budgets, and supporting the administration and reporting of grant funding. You will collect, analyse, and interpret performance and management data, producing insightful reports and visual graphics to inform service planning and workforce deployment.

In addition, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Fairness Taskforce’s online citizen space and managing its associated social media presence, producing engaging content and collateral in collaboration with partners and the Council’s communications team.

About you

You will be an experienced and highly organised administrator with a strong track record of delivering high-quality business and project support in a busy and complex environment. Confident using a range of IT and office systems, including back-office platforms, you will be comfortable managing information, producing reports, and ensuring that operational and strategic objectives are met to a high standard.

With demonstrable experience of working collaboratively across sectors — particularly with voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise partners — you will bring a partnership-focused approach to everything you do. You will also have experience managing and reporting on complex grant funding programmes, maintaining accuracy and accountability throughout.

Excellent communication skills are essential. You will be able to communicate clearly and appropriately with staff, partners, elected members, and residents, both verbally and in writing, always maintaining a professional and collaborative approach. You will be confident producing, reviewing, and quality-assuring reports and correspondence to ensure consistency and clarity.

Analytically minded, you will have strong numeracy skills and the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make evidence-based recommendations to inform decision-making. You will also be highly skilled in coordinating and prioritising workloads — both your own and others’ — to meet tight deadlines and shifting priorities.

You will bring experience of organising and managing events, supporting local, regional, and national partners, and contributing to project delivery across a wide range of work themes. Your approach will be flexible, proactive, and responsive to emerging needs.

Above all, you will demonstrate a clear commitment to fairness, equity, and social justice — values that underpin the work of the Fairness Taskforce. You will understand the importance of inclusion and community voice and will be motivated by the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the lives of Luton’s residents.

You will hold a recognised Level 3 qualification in administration (or have equivalent experience) and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development. The role requires flexibility to work some evenings and weekends and the ability to travel across the Borough to attend meetings and events. You must also be able to communicate effectively and fluently in spoken English when providing advice and support to members of the public.
